It's a Global Crisis and We Must Respond

The AIDS crisis seems overwhelming, with a child orphaned every 14 seconds and over 6,000 people dying daily in Africa alone. The epidemic knows no borders, expanding beyond Africa, to Eastern Europe, Asia and other regions. An epidemic of these proportions demands not only our thoughts, prayers and finances, but also our voice.

People all over the planet, led by those in affected countries, are demanding an emergency response to AIDS. Networks of these concerned global citizens have joined together to spread awareness, knowledge and engagement about the AIDS crisis.

There are successful programs that are working to stop AIDS: caring for orphans, educating people, providing treatment and hope for the future. Now we need to build on those successes, worldwide.

Your support and participation will make a difference. Lend your voice on behalf of those whose who need it so desperately. Pilgrim Uganda
About Us

Pilgrim is a Christian Ugandan non-profit (Reg. No S5914/3885) providing material and spiritual aid to the war- afflicted peoples of eastern and northern Uganda.

Pilgrim strives to share the hope and love that is found in Christ Jesus which generates wholeness, creativity and dignity.

Because love is never content with a partial or lukewarm response to need, we believe in a progressive multiservice approach in our interventions.

We believe the best witness of Christ's revolutionary love is to invest ourselves in as total a fashion as possible in the lives, dreams, hopes, gifts and talents of the people we serve.

What We Do

Pilgrim provides food, medicine and trauma counseling to refugees of Uganda's civil war who live in refugee camps in the northeastern region of Uganda, and works to rehabilitate and resettle refugee families.

In 2006, Pilgrim started Beacon College, sponsored secondary school education and room and board for 450 former abductees, child soldiers and orphaned children from the camps.

As we provide necessary relief and rehabilitation to this war-torn region, our long-term goal is to promote sustainable socio-economic development in Teso, the northeastern region and Uganda.

All Kids Can Learn International

In 2001, Benedict Schwartz, a Christian businessman from Maryland, was given the call to begin creating orphan villages in Africa. God moved mightily, and after organizing a team from his church, the Children of Zion Village was built in Namibia. There are now 55 children there who are being raised in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ.

In 2004, Benedict was led to organize All Kids Can Learn International, Inc. (AKCLI), to spread the vision that churches and businesses can sponsor children's villages; and collectively can rescue millions of orphans around the world.

AKCLI is a founding member of the Voice of the Orphans Coalition. The coalition was organized in 2006 by Family Life Ministries, Focus on the Family and Shaohannah's Hope.

All Kids Can Learn International, Inc. is a 501(c) 3, not-for-profit corporation, formed by Christian business people who are called by God to impact the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. In 2002, our church built and staffed a children's village in Namibia, Africa. There are currently 55 AIDS orphans there. Over 60 members of our church (10% of the members) have gone there and served from two weeks to one year. An essential part of the work we are doing is to get church-members personally involved as intercessory teams for each child, and also to visit and work with the children, becoming their extended family in Christ.

In 2006 we purchased a 230-acre farm in Zambia, and are planning to build children's villages there for 200 children. Africare, with 28 years of experience in Zambia, is partnering with us to make the farm into a commercial agricultural training center. Training for teenage and young adult orphans began in November 2006. Orphans will be given their own plots of land, formed into commercial cooperatives, and taught the entrepreneurial skills needed to earn a living through farming. Without real work and actual income, training is fruitless in an economy with 80% unemployment. The youth receive daily Bible instruction as part of their education.

All Kids Can Learn International, Inc. has a Zambian board of directors responsible for fashioning the program there to make sure that it is appropriate and effective for raising African disciples of Jesus Christ, in a Zambian context. We are looking for U.S. churches to come along side of our partnering African churches to help sponsor these children's villages. We have several thousand additional acres of land available to us throughout Zambia. We will be glad to speak with you or anyone at your church about the opportunities for effective partnering, to raise these kids as disciples of Jesus Christ.

DATA: Debt, Aids, Trade, Africa

Founded in 2002 by Bono, the lead singer of U2, DATA aims to raise awareness about, and spark response to the crises swamping Africa: unpayable Debts, uncontrolled spread of AIDS, and unfair Trade rules which keep Africans poor. At the core of DATA's mission is a view that these issues are not about charity, but about equality and justice. DATA is bringing people and organizations from all around the world together to stop the spread of AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa. From our offices in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, we work in partnership with grassroots organizers and other non-governmental organizations across the US to build a movement of Americans who want to help Africans achieve a better future and want their government to do the same.
