Hope for Africa
The crisis in Africa has already left nearly 14 million orphans in its wake. Within the next five years, another 10 million children will be orphaned, many of these in critical need of basic care.
As the Church, we must not turn our backs on the clear command of Scripture to help these children. We should prayerfully ponder the rhetorical question the apostle John poses in 1 John 3:17: "But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?" (ESV)
While this crisis is unprecedented, so too is the opportunity to powerfully impact Africa with the love of Jesus in both word and deed. Christ truly is the answer to Africa's pain and suffering, and we can answer this great call from God by mobilizing the massive resources we have been richly blessed with—one church at a time for one orphan village at a time. By merely responding to the cries of these little ones we can bring the healing of the Gospel to an entire generation so desperate for mercy and hope.
